Understanding the Sealing Socket Abutment (SSA) Part. 1

This lecture introduces the concept and clinical significance of the Sealing Socket Abutment (SSA) in immediate implant placement. It explains how SSA can help seal the extraction socket, stabilize graft material and blood clot, preserve peri-implant soft tissue, and support the development of a natural emergence profile. The lecture also reviews the growing role of SSA as immediate implant placement becomes more widely accepted in clinical practice.

Course Description Course Overview & Learning Objectives
Course Overview

The lecture begins by defining the Sealing Socket Abutment and explaining its role in immediate implant placement with gap GBR. It reviews the clinical benefits of SSA, including tissue preservation, reduced need for additional surgery, shorter treatment time, and improved esthetic outcomes. The risks associated with immediate provisionalization are compared with the SSA approach, particularly in relation to implant stability and occlusal loading. The lecture also compares chairside-fabricated, prefabricated, and stock SSAs, discussing their advantages and limitations. Finally, clinical cases demonstrate why customized chairside fabrication can provide better socket sealing and soft tissue support, especially in anterior implant cases.

Learning Objectives

 - Understand the concept and clinical role of the Sealing Socket Abutment (SSA).

 - Explain how SSA can support socket sealing and peri-implant soft tissue preservation after immediate implant placement.

 - Understand the potential benefits of SSA in cases involving gap GBR.

 - Compare SSA with immediate provisionalization in terms of stability and occlusal loading considerations.

 - Differentiate between chairside-fabricated, prefabricated, and stock SSA approaches.

 - Understand how customized SSA can help develop an appropriate emergence profile and support esthetic outcomes.
